Energy Saving with Compressed Air

On average more than 20% of the total energy used by many industries is consumed in the generation of compressed air. As a clean and versatile energy source, compressed air has long been viewed by many as ‘free’ or at least inexpensive; nothing is further from the truth.SMC Pneumatics has, for many years, been actively involved with industry in an effort to improve the efficient use of compressed air; pioneering many initiatives that reduce the wastage of this valuable and often limited resource.Compressed air is generated through the use of air compressors. Typically driven by electric motors, these compressors take air at atmospheric pressure and pump this air into storage tanks and pipelines, at often up to 10 atmospheres pressure. The process of compressing the air generates by-products, particularly heat; which largely is wasted.

SMC Pneumatics has developed an easy to use software program to help customers calculate individual  compressed air efficiency and and the energy costs for compressed air functions. This Energy Saving software is available to customers and will quickly generate actual machine operating costs, usage considerations and will place individual case studies into a presentable report format.

To download your energy saving software please visit the PRODUCTS page of this website. Should you require a CD-ROM copy or require further assistance in determining how  this software can assist you to reduce the costs asosciated with compressed air please contact your local SMC office.
